Pablo Escobar’s Right-Hand Man Says The War On Drugs Is Impossible To Win

Jhon "Popeye" Velasquez was Pablo Escobar's security chief, he was a ruthless killer who went to great lengths to secure the success of the cartel. Two German journalist recently interviewed Popeye who has been incarcerated for 20 years. Check out the quote below.

“People like me can’t be stopped.” Claims Popeye. “It’s a war. They lose men, and we lose men. They lose their scruples, and we never had any. In the end, you’ll even blow up an aircraft because you believe the Colombian president is on board. I don’t know what you have to do. Maybe sell cocaine in pharmacies. I’ve been in prison for 20 years, but you will never win this war when there is so much money to me made. Never.”

Since declaring the war on drugs in 1971, the drug volume has remained the same. While the cost of fighting this war has gone up over 3,000%. So the moral of this story, stop trying?

No product on earth has profit margins as large as cocaine or heroin,” says one of the top drug experts in the world, Ethan Nadelmann. “Why? Because of prohibition.”
